Using video cameras in the classroom (Project for ACTFL Intermediate Mid or High)
The project: The students had to create a humoristic video based on a French meme "Bref" to show their daily routine at the university.
Thank you so much, Jibran and Angel, for allowing me to use your video!
The pedagogical objectives of the project are the following:
1) DISCOVERING FRENCH CULTURE AND HUMOR: Just like in many countries of the world, there is a lot of "meme" on the French internet. The "Bref" meme started with a comedian of the channel Canal + who created a series of "BREF" videos. "Bref" literatly means "in brief," but is also used in colloquial French to cut short a conversation when one wants to pass on unecessary details in order to lead directly to a self-deprecating and funny conclusion. In those short videos. For example, the comedian created videos giving short and funny comments about what it is to be a 30 year-old person, what it is to be single etc... Then, people in France started to create their own videos following the same model because it was short, easy and fun. The students were asked to do the same about their experience on campus.
2) DEVELOPING PRESENTATIONAL SKILLS: The students present their personnal experience at Rutgers on a humoristic mode and use the vocabulary covered in class and at home. They also use video technologies since this project is originally intended for a language lab class. They can use their own personal video device (like their phone or IPad) or borrow a camera at the language lab.
3) DEVELOPING INTERPERSONAL SKILLS AND WORK IN TEAMS: The students are put in groups of two or three and had to interact with each other in French during the preparatiion of the project.
You will find below the worksheet which was given to the students:
